Ken Van HeelDirector Kenneth J. Van Heel is the Global Director of Alternative Investments for Portfolio Investments, The Dow Chemical Company. In this role Ken oversees a team of investment professionals managing global investment strategy and execution of Private Equity fund and direct investments, Real Estate, and Real Assets and Infrastructure for pension plan and insurance assets at Dow. From mid-2008 through 2009 Ken also had responsibilities as a Global Director of Dow’s Corporate Venture Capital, an established group of investment professionals managing Dow investments in the venture capital sector. Before joining Portfolio Investments as a Sr. Investment Manager in 2003, Ken worked in the Corporate Venture Capital group at Dow. Ken joined Dow in 1986 and held sales and marketing positions before assuming commercial business development roles starting in 1994 in Ventures New Business (Advanced Materials and Electronics), Performance Chemicals and e-Business. Ken’s transaction experience includes venture capital investments, spin-outs, divestitures, and strategic partnerships. In addition to his role on the WHI board, Ken serves on the boards of Gantec Inc. and Cytopherx Inc. Usha Rao-MonariDirector Usha Rao-Monari is the Global Head of Water in the Infrastructure and Natural Resources Department of IFC, covering the global Utilities and Public Private Partnerships practice group. Ms. Rao-Monari joined the IFC through the Young Professionals Program in 1990, and has since gained substantial experience in the Infrastructure, Manufacturing and Petrochemicals sectors in several countries and regions of the world. In 1998, she assumed the position of Regional Manager for Manufacturing and Services for South Asia and Country Head for India, based in IFC's New Delhi regional office. Ms. Rao-Monari assumed her current responsibility in 2001, when she returned to Washington DC. Ms. Rao-Monari holds an MBA from the Bajaj School of Management in Bombay, and a Masters in International Economics and Finance from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Prior to joining IFC, she was a Vice President at Prudential-Bache Capital Funding, working both in New York and London. |
Mohan HarsheyDirector Mohan Harshey is a Partner in the Innovations Fund (Private Equity) at Tata Capital Ltd. He has over three decades of experience in SME & Corporate lending, Merchant Banking, Private Equity and Investments in both India and United States. At Tata Capital, he successfully conceptualized and launched the Innovations Fund. He has been responsible for the fund to enter into various tie ups with scientific experts so as to give the fund a good foundation for evaluating new technologies. Prior to his joining Tata Capital Ltd, Mohan worked as the Head of Domestic Treasury (with an aggregate investment size of $40 billion) for more than 5 years at State Bank of India (SBI), managing SBI’s various investment portfolios - in money markets, fixed income, mutual funds, listed equity, private equity and strategic investments. Over the course of his 30-year career at State Bank of India, Mohan Harshey also spent 14 years in Industrial Advances handling various loan portfolios to the SMEs and also large industries. Subsequently he spent four years in SBI Capital Markets mainly doing advisory assignments and has some very large and successful assignments to his credit. He has built up his expertise across the entire gamut of lending and investment activities and gained knowledge of clean technology sectors of which he is a strong proponent. Mr. Mohan Harshey holds a postgraduate degree in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. He is also a certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers. |
Greg CasagrandeDirector Greg is the Founder of SPBD Microfinance Network, the leading microfinance institution in the South Pacific. He is also the founder of MicroDreams, a microfinance acceleration fund and Transformative Ventures LLC, a Microfinance advisory company. Greg has served as a director in microfinance industry boards including: the International Association of Microfinance Investors (of NY), Microfinance Pasifika (of Fiji), the United Nation’s International Year of Microcredit (of NY) and Planet Finance (of Paris). Greg was named “Person of the Year” in the country of Samoa for his microfinance leadership in that country. Greg also promotes hi-tech entrepreneurship and was a founding director of the Ice Angels, Australasia’s largest angel investor group and serves as Chairman of three New Zealand software firms: Biomatters Ltd, Calcium Solutions Ltd and English-To-Go Ltd. Prior to these ventures, Greg recorded significant achievement with Ford Motor Company, Mazda Motor Company and Coopers and Lybrand in product development, manufacturing, marketing and financial management positions. He led teams in the U.S., Japan and Europe and while with Mazda was honored to be the youngest-ever Buchou (Division General Manager) of any major Japanese corporation. Greg has an MBA from Kellogg, an MS from NYU Stern, and a BA from Colgate University and is also a CPA. |
Dr. Tralance AddyDirector Tralance Addy is founder and President of Plebys International. Tralance led the acquisition of WHI by Plebys in 2002 and served as President and CEO of WHI from 2002-2009, during which time he led the transformation of the company from a technology-focused start-up to a new kind of service provider, focused on providing safe, affordable water to underserved communities. Prior to Plebys, Dr. Addy was an International Vice President of global health-care leader Johnson & Johnson (J&J). During his 20+ year career with J&J he held several other senior executive positions including Worldwide President of Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP), a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary he founded and established within the corporation. Tralance led the development, commercialization, and rapid growth of ASP to be a market segment leader covering over 40 countries around the world. He earlier was Vice President of R&D for Johnson & Johnson Medical, Inc., J&J’s Professional Sector subsidiary. He was a member of that company’s Global Management Committee.
In addition to his current board role with WHI, Tralance has served on the boards of Phyto-Riker Pharmaceuticals in Ghana, the Center for Sustainable Enterprise of UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, the Sickle Cell Association of America, The United Way of Orange County, CA, Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, and Swarthmore College’s Board of Managers. Tralance earned BA and BS degrees in chemistry and engineering simultaneously from Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania. He subsequently earned MS and PhD degrees in engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School. He holds 14 U.S. and numerous international patents, from technology innovations and inventions developed over his career, and he is also a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. |
Sanjay BhatnagarChief Executive Officer Sanjay serves as President & CEO of WaterHealth International. He joined WHI in 2009, bringing extensive experience in emerging markets of infrastructure development and management in a global context. He founded the THOT Capital Group in 2001, a private equity firm based in New York that invested in energy assets. Previously, Sanjay served as a CEO of Enron Broadband Services for the Middle East and Asia, based in Singapore, and prior to that he was the Chairman and CEO of Enron South Asia, developing large scale power, gas and telecom infrastructure. Sanjay started his career with Schlumberger, where he served as an engineer and manager in several Asian and European countries. Sanjay received an MBA with Honors from the Harvard Business School, a Master’s degree in Engineering from Stanford University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India. Sanjay has and continues to hold leadership roles with organizations such as: the Global Agenda Council on Water, World Economic Forum; Advisory Board on Water, University of Alberta, Canada; Senior Fellow, University of Southern California; Director Emeritus, US India Business Council (USIBC) affiliate of the US Chamber of Commerce, Washington DC; Director, Punj Lloyd Construction Company, India; Director, Emco, India; Former Director,AIESEC International; Former President, American Chamber of Commerce in India (1999-2001); Member, YPO/WPO; Chairman, Infrastructure Committee, Confederation of Indian Industry (2000). |
