WaterHealth International Announces the Launch of the Blue Revolution

Hyderabad, India, (February 4, 2007) - WaterHealth International, Inc. (WHI) today announced that it is launching the Blue Revolution, with the goal of bringing potable water to the roughly two billion people worldwide with little or no access to it. The company chose to announce this milestone event in India because it was the center of the Green Revolution, which led to major achievements in agricultural production throughout the country. Additionally, India has been WaterHealth’s primary focus for the past several years.

A key component of the Blue Revolution is the strategy to engage with a wide range of corporations, government and non-governmental organizations to solve this global health crisis. WaterHealth has committed to lead the effort through its technology and innovative business models. Participants in the news conference included representatives of WaterHealth International, NAANDI Foundation, and the International Finance Corp. (IFC). WaterHealth International held its quarterly board meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday, and several board members also attended the event.

"India has been a touchstone for WaterHealth International to demonstrate the sustainability and viability of its clean water initiatives," said Dr. Tralance Addy, President and CEO of WaterHealth International. "We hope to have the same impact on India as the green revolution did on agriculture, and we intend to make this a global initiative. WaterHealth believes that its efforts in solving the clean water crisis will contribute significantly to meeting the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by the year 2015, Addy said. "In fact, we believe that the MDG of providing potable water to 650,000,000 people worldwide does not go far enough to solve this crisis. We believe that a strong public-private partnership to focus on this issue can mean a much larger number. We hope to be a leader in making this a reality."

"I believe that it is better to prevent waterborne diseases rather than to treat them," said Dr. K. Anji Reddy, Chairman, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories and Chairman of the Board of WaterHealth India. “Therefore, the technology of WaterHealth International, which enables us to produce pathogen-free water, is the correct answer for the Indian situation.”

The company has developed 50 WaterHealth Centres across Andhra Pradesh in the past year alone. They expect the figure to be in the hundreds in the near future. WHI has more than 500 installations of its water purification and disinfection systems in developing countries around the world. In addition to India, the company plans to focus in the coming year on India and South Asia, West Africa, the Philippines and Latin America.

WaterHealth International, Inc. provides innovative business solutions to one of the world's most desperate health crises, the lack of safe, clean and affordable water for the more than two billion people who have little or no access to it. WHI's award winning water purification and disinfection technology, combined with creative and unique business approaches, enable the delivery of highly affordable, clean water to even the most remote and underserved communities.
